The Pakistani Cigar Community

Two weeks ago, I embarked on a thrilling adventure to Pakistan, fueled by my love for cigars and curiosity about the Pakistani culture. Teaming up with a local friend, our mission was clear: dive deep into the Pakistani cigar communities and uncover its hidden gems. Let me explain how it went!

Karachi, Province of Sindh

My journey began in Karachi where I was first captivated by the beauty of the country and its people. I visited the tomb of Jinnah, the creator of Pakistan. Given that Jinnah was a cigar smoker, I would say that it was my first taste of the country’s rich cigar heritage.

In Pakistan, cigar smokers generally prefer flavourful Cubans. I would say there is a Cuban cigar culture. Yet, they were intrigued by my adventures in the Dominican Republic and experience with New World cigars. It was nice learning from each other’s experience.

That night, I started with a La Galera Corojo and then, continued with a Bolivar Royal corona, kindly gifted by Mir. Cheers to you and Ammar for inviting me!

A blend of flavors, interesting discussions, and delicious pizzas made this successful night!

Islamabad and Lahore, Punjab region

Afterward, I traveled to both Islamabad and Lahore. While in Islamabad, I discovered a store called Shams, owing to recommendations from the local community. Shams specializes in Cuban and New World cigars. However, I felt that the cigar community in Islamabad was nearly non-existent, as we didn’t encounter many aficionados during our visit. This could possibly be attributed to the fact that Islamabad primarily consists of civil servants, given its administrative nature. In contrast to cities like Karachi or Lahore, where such communities are more active.

In Lahore, amid visits to iconic landmarks like the Badshahi Mosque and Lahore Fort, I witnessed the vibrant celebration of Kashmir Day at the Wagah border, where I saw a powerful display of national pride. Very impressive!

Wrapping up the day, I joined the Lahore cigar community, soaking in their hospitality. Special thanks to Usman for sharing a memorable cigar! I will smoke it, next time I am in Pakistan. Let’s hope, soon!

During our gathering, Lahoreans proudly proclaimed their community as the best. So, do not hesitate to write in the comments, which community is the best 😉 and in which city you live in Pakistan!

Thanks to Khan, Usman and the Lahore cigar community for the 2 experiences I had with you all.

Pakistani Cigar Lifestyle

Generally, Pakistani cigar enthusiasts seek exclusivity, often favoring Cuban cigars due to their scarcity and medium strength. However, there is a growing market for non-Cuban cigars among Pakistani smokers.

They usually enjoy their cigar hobby at upscale places like beautiful lounges and high-end restaurants. Additionally, they make sure to have the latest accessories for cutting and lighting their premium cigars.

Last words about the Pakistani Cigar Community

Finally, I’d like to thank the Pakistanis I met on my trip and the cigar community! The general Pakistani hospitality I experienced everywhere makes the Pakistani cigar community, one of the most welcoming in the world, if not the number 1.

Next time, you’re in Brussels, hit me up for a fine smoke!
